Living along the bank of the Grand River on Abrigador Trail, we are now official river rats--meaning that we live in a floodplain. But the term means more than that since my initials spell rat--and the reflections are ones both in my mind and on the water.

ITALY TRAVEL JOURNAL
Venice, a cesspool. STAY AWAY. Florence, GLORIOUS for lovers of the Renaissance! Rome, spectacular---historians' heaven. (John does the detailed travel journals.)
Oh dear, why is Venice so bad? Was it flooded? I always heard Florence was the city to avoid, but it's good you caught it off-season. How's the gelato?
My time in Italy took me to Florence many times (one does not travel in Northern Italy w/out going through Florence). I loved the city. My time in Venice was short so I have no comment. As for Rome, chuck the tour guides and buy a Michelin Guide. You see and enjoy more on your own than in a crowd being pushed and shoved.
