My Dark Secret

I've learned that the chief spokesman for the seminary is responding to questions by saying SHE knows why she got the terminal appointment--as though there is some dark secret of "ungodliness" that I'm hiding. What a pile of dung! This is the same inflamatory charge that I have faced for 3 years. When I demanded to know in writing what this "ungodliness" was I received 2 sets of fabricated notes. (See side post: "Charges of Ungodliness" on main blog.)

  1. Oh, that is just sheer childishness on their part...!

If they allude to some secret TOO AWFUL for them to mention, they think they'll look like they're trying to protect your reputation while actually making everyone think you did something horrible. But if you say publicly that you're happy for whatever it is to be mentioned, then they can have no excuse to 'protect' you like that. This is so stupid.

Maybe if they talked, they'd accuse you of terrorist activities, so the government would take you away and deal with you in a quiet manner. Hmm, a Guantanamo Bay for debauched theology lecturers. Now there's a thought.

No, Ruth, it's not a pile of dung, but a pile of truth, disguised. It's an admission of guilt. They have no other legal nor face saving recourse.

To say that "SHE knows why," is intended to convey that it's some secret, verrrrry bad lady naughtiness. But, if one looks at it as a clear and straightforward statement, it confirms that you are telling the truth.

Yes, you do know. What they've left out is the rest of the sentence, that you've accurately presented to the public what you know.

They are using the equivalent of the Roman Catholic permission to tell only part of the truth and thus make that deceptive telling less than a lie.

What else can they do if they are unwilling to respond honorably and find themselves between a Ruth and a hard place?
